ジョイス・ラムさんの映像作品『食火』（2020年）に音楽を提供しています。
その『食火』の予告編40秒が公開されました。
ジョイスさんは香港で生まれ、ロンドン大学、一橋大学、慶応大学といろいろなところで勉強をなさったのち、伊東豊雄さんの建築塾にお勤めになられていたときにお会いしました。その後、出版に関する仕事をなさりつつ、同時に東京藝術大学の映像研究科に入学し映像作品を制作しています。
これまで、ジョイスさんのドキュメンタリー作品をいくつか拝見しました。
もともと、想田和弘さんや河合宏樹さんのドキュメンタリー作品を好んでみていましたが、
ジョイスさんのドキュメンタリーはまた彼らとは違った独特のテイストがありつつ、
映像の対象に対する温かいまなざしが感じられ、心地よくみることができます。
彼女の作品もまた、すごく好きです。

「とんど焼き」は一年の無病息災を祈るために、瀬戸内海に浮かぶ大三島で毎年行われている行事である。村の人びとは協力し合いながら、高さ約8メートル、幅約3メートルのとんどを作り、全員で空き地まで引いたあとに火を放つ。火を起こし、火を囲み、そして火を食べる——火にまつわる人の営みからその場所の歴史、人間の根源的な習性を思索する。

The Cooked video, single channel, 11 mins 9 secs
'Tondoyaki' is an annual festival held on the island of Omishima in the Seto Inland Sea to pray for good health and happiness in the coming year. The villagers work together to build an 8m tall and 3m wide 'tondo', which they all pull to a clearing and then set alight. Making fire, gathering around the fire and 'eating fire' - this film explores the relationship between the history of a place and the fundamental habits of human beings through looking at the activities of people around fire.
